Lamlash House Opens Its Doors to the 10th Walkfest

Lamlash House was please to be involved in the 10th Irvine Valley Walking Festival on Friday 11th May.
Ian Pollock conducted the Newmilns Town Walk from the Town House on Main Street and stopped along the way at Lamlash House (formerly Bank House) the Category B Listed property which was built in 1889.

Unlike previous walking festivals, for the first time, the 2012 event included a brief overview of the house's 123 years of history and a chance to see the entrance staircase and the recently restored Stephen Adam stained glass windows.

The windows feature images of James Hogg, Walter Scott, Alan Ramsay, Robert Tannahill and Robert Burns which were able to be seen close up. In addition, the front door of the house depicts an image of Flora the Roman Goddess of Flowers and the Season of Spring and her symbolic significance in the main windows and in the decoration elsewhere in the house was pointed out.

Ian Pollock recalled the Lamlash House Calendar Girls charity fundraising event in 2011, the photographs for which were taken in different rooms throughout the house. Over 400 calendars were sold with the £3055 proceeds being donated to The Ayrshire Hospice.

The visit to Lamlash House was well received by those who attended.
